Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighbourhood located in the West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" spot. In reality, the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive area that extends from Lachine to the west. Many times, it is credited as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay at the island was infrequent. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. She aspired to be a professional dancer but due to an explosive increase in her height, she surpassed all of her dancing colleagues. In an article published in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. When I grew out of male companions, I stopped. In the case of Brugel, it was her encouragement from the drama instructor at her high-school that led her to start acting. Her teacher advised her to audition for a part in her school's production. The teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the school's annual production. This resulted in an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel was offered roles in over 60 shows on the small and big screens receiving the most media attention, when she was cast as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian in the season 1 actors of the series as well as appearing only on occasion, was the only Canadian.
